SEGA Corporation confirmed that 2011 June 17 (Fri.), there was an illegal access from outside to the customer service “SEGAPASS” provided by its subsidiary “SEGA Europe Ltd.”, which the main office is located at London, UK. It caused leak of customer information (name, date of birth, email address and encoded password) of all of the 1,290,755 customers.
Originally, leaked information had been used to notify information about new products to members of the users; it seems not to include credit information such as credit card data.
SEGA said that from now on they regard increase of the network security as the most important task; the entire stuff will cope with the problem and make efforts to restore the trust.
