May 27, the beginning of the rainy season in Tokai and Kanto-Koshin Region has been announced. Though it is a matter of the future yet, summer comes after the rainy season. But this summer, “power saving measure” will be concern owing to electric power shortage. Maybe many people are wondering about how they can get through this summer. In such a situation, the actor Hosokawa Shigeki famous as an electrical appliance mania eagerly wrote about “power saving” on his blog “Code name = root sg”. What kind of power saving measure has he thought out?
Hosokawa wrote about power saving on his diary on May 15, 22 and 26.
First, on 15, he wrote he is going to be thinking about (1) How can we cut 15%? (2) How can we save power without purchasing new electrical appliances? (3) What function should be accompanied with electrical appliances in future? (4) What makes power saving easier? Hosokawa thinks the most important factor to save power is “breaker”; he recommends asking your power company to change your contract ampere and to check an old breaker. Merits of using fans and LED lamps are also written. Hosokawa put these ideas into practice and succeeded to cut 35% of electricity charges. He is aiming at 50% off in the summer.
On 22, he introduced power saving of “air conditioner”, “TV” and “refrigerator” occupying 80% of electricity consumption. He wrote you can cut 15% of electricity consumption in your house if you clean up filters of your air conditioner, raise the temperature setting by two degrees and set the timer. Also about refrigerator, the rule “don’t put too much in refrigerated room, put much in freezing room” is introduced. In a freezing room, putting many things improves freezing efficiency because each one works like refrigerant. In a refrigerating room, you can save 5% of electricity by using a curtain and change the setting from “strong” to “medium”. As for TV, you can cut more 5 to 8% of electricity consumption by turning the main switch off, settings of sound volume and brightness and other various ways.
And on 26, Hosokawa predicted what kind of electrical appliances will be needed in future. For example, he thinks Geiger counter (nuclear mater) will be focused as a function accompanied with appliances. Also, the sales of fans in this year are nine times as large as the one in the last year; he expects further progress of functions.
Even though it is always said that power saving is important, usually such comments are vague ones without specific solutions. In this situation, Hosokawa’s blog is very useful. It is recommended looking through it once if you are interested.
