Shigeru Jojima, the leader of TOKIO, talked about his 'hobby-less' everyday life in 'Hanamaru Market' (TBS) on June 1.
He seemed tired, probably because his new show 'Rokugatsu no Bitter Orange' will be starting soon. It's been 15 years since his last show and he is having hard time memorizing all his lines. His script is not all black from writing in memos.
Jojima's life is so down-to-earth and it is hard to believe that he is a big star. For example, he buys one thing at a department store and another at supermarket. He buys wine or cheese at a department store where he can find varieties of selections. On the other hand, when he wants to buy sashimi, he waits until the local supermarket starts the time sale. He buys other daily groceries at a supermarket and even at a dollar store. He cooks for himself, and that day he brought his home-made ponzu shoyu. He bought a reasonable stove burner online. He hardly waste his money.
Another thing about him is that he usually wears a jacket. In his 20's, he wore a casual outfit like a T-shirt and jeans, however once he enters his 30's, he started to think that he needed to be more respectful when other staff members wear suits and ties. "It's more appropriate and safe with a jacket", says Jojima, which is very unlikely for a rock band guitarist.
The reason why he is so down-to-earth is because he had some financial difficulties as a kid? He would like to have a wife who is 'energetic and cheerful' who would greet him with a big smile when he comes home. It sounds so much like Jojima, but has he met one yet?
